Many of you may have seen pictures of "The Hawkeye Initiative." It's a meme which encourages artists to re-draw female characters as Hawkeye, usually to point out sexism in comics. I don't deny that comic books often feature exaggerated female characters, however, is this true of all comics and artists? Many also feature male characters in ridiculous poses or outfits. If it's okay to redraw a female character as Hawkeye to prove a point, wouldn't it also be fair to redraw a male comic book character as Hawkgirl?
For that reason, I'm starting a Hawkgirl Initiative on Tumblr. Find male superheroes with absurd costumes and poses, and demonstrate how absurd they are by drawing Hawkgirl in their place.
I'll be doing a couple of drawings myself for the Hawkgirl Initiative when I don't have school work. It's open to all artists, so you're welcome to add something.
